Speaker: Paul Gardner
Radio personality and past Melbourne Football Club Chairman
Topic: One of everything (….except a son)
What do you need to ‘collect’ to make it in Melbourne business
It was said of Nelson that he had ‘one eye, one arm, one destiny’ and to this day, the number 111 writs large as superstitious for English cricketers.
Paul Gardner was also once described as having ‘one of everything’ including: one pub (the oldest in Melbourne), one climbed mountain (Kilimanjaro), one overseas vodka (VDKA6100) in conjunction with one superstar (Robert De Niro), one activation business (Dig+Fish), one stint as Chairman of Melbourne Football Club (2003-2008), one term as Chairman of Malthouse Theatre (1999-2008), one martial art (Sensei in karate), one radio programme (albeit across 51 stations), one Queen’s Birthday Order of Australia (2008) and a one city devotion (his beloved Melbourne). In fact, he has virtually one of everything except daughters (two) and sons (none).
So naturally, this will be his one (and only) appearance at The Collins Club.
